Nestled near the lobby of the hotel, Kim Khao sits waiting to be discovered. Just use your nose and follow the smell of fish sauce and you'll find your way there.
I came here to find out why this place has a Michelin Star you most people probably do. From the reviews I could tell the mushroom terrine was the star dish but when I asked I was told they didn't get the shipment of mushrooms. Bummer. So we ordered the khao mun gai and the pork bowl. For a drink I got the Siam sipper. I honestly wasn't too impressed by the food. The khao mun gai was pretty much a hainan chicken plate with chicken fat rice; not bad, but not remarkable. The pork bowl was the same. It had a pleasant flavor but lacked a complexity. After the first few bites it left little wonder and drive for the next bite. I do have to say they did the cocktail well. I appreciate a nice strong well portioned drink.
The service was great. We were running about 15 min late for our reservation and I called to ask if they could possibly push it back for us and they did so without hesitation. When we sat and talked to our server we told her we liked spicy food and she made sure to give us extra peppers and hot sauce. With 10 years in the restaurant I industry it's rare to see servers who have the foresight to cater to their customers individually. So come here for the service, to say that you've been to a Michelin Star restaurant, and to have a good drink. -

Wow this is one of the worst restaurants I've ever had in San Francisco. We originally saw they had great marks on Yelp as well as the Michelin Star rating, so we had pretty high expectations going in. We were SO WRONG.
1) Service was bad, their service staff avoided all eye contact with us and other customers
2) The Rabbit Curry was way too thick and oily, the meat balls in there tasted so gamey that the flavor was basically rotten - I legitimately threw up in my mouth.
3) The Yaowaraj Noodle was ridiculously salty to the point of being almost inedible. We had to send it back once and it was still salty even after they recooked it.
4) The pork belly was really tough, although the sauce was good. Sadly enough, the sauce specifically was probably the most delicious thing on our table -

The Yaowaraj Noodles get better each time I have it! This time, in addition to my go-tos, I also ordered:
- Thai Coffee ($5) - must have! amazing cold brew!
- Pork Bowl ($19) - the spicy sauce is to die for!
- Khao Mun Gai ($19) - a bit bland, I'd pass on this. -

Visited this Michelin starred Thai restaurant because I was craving Popeye's Chicken Sandwich...
Ordered a couple dishes to share:
Yaowaraj noodles - very rich in flavor but a little salty in my opinion
Kao Mun Gai - Like Hainan Chicken but the rich is very moist and nicely steamed/the side of chicken broth was game for the cold weather
Crispy Chicken Sandwich - Great portion and comparably better than P, like a fancier version of the PCS :p
Very affordable for a Michelin star restaurant and will I come back? YES!
The cons about this place is probably parking and the wait because it is in the hotel so your best bet is to valet but that is kind of $$$/the wait can be long if you do not have reservations before hand and might have to share tables with other parties. -

Just a heads up, if you have a party of 6 or more, you are obligated to have the prefix menu. Corkage fee here is $30. Highly recommend getting a reservation or you may not be seated since this place is packed. Service is quick and friendly.
Food was kind of a disappointment. Most of the first few dishes were extremely spicy which isn't bad but some of the people in my party can't handle spicy. The Brussels sprouts were overly salty. Pork belly was phenomenal though. It was sweet and was so tender. Highlight dish of the night. Everything else just felt mediocre.
Maybe coming in a smaller group is better since you can order a la carte. I think they should definite make it so big parties can order what they like. I'm really not too sure how this place has a Michelin Star but definitely one of my least favorite Michelin started restaurants in the city.
